Enjoy the Journey
By Mollie Bennett
As I looked at the words on my new cup I fell into a deep daze, enjoy the journey.
The Aerosmith lyrics begin singing in my head, Life's a journey, not a destination.
Do we live this way?
As far back as I can remember I have been taught to have a goal. Focus on the future Look forward
You need to get good grades to graduate. Graduate with honors to get into the next level at school. Do well there so you can get a good job and make money. Excel in your work so you can make more money and so on. The goals are always pushed forward and there was never talk of being content. In fact being content was not encouraged. Staying at the same "level" was looked down upon and seen as lazy.
It's as if you are meant to drive somewhere and never look out the window, much less stop and take in the view. What happens if you change course completely? How will the people around you react? Should that affect you?
If we shift our focus from a future we will never arrive at, to a present we are actually living, what changes in our lives?
Can you feel your pulse relax? Your body inhale? exhale?
Focus on the things around you. What makes you happy right now in your life? What gives you pleasure? What encourages you to think? Learn? Grow? Sink into those things, people and experiences. Follow your heart and intuition towards your best expression of expansion.
To focus on the future is done with the mind and our minds are limited to what we already know. Do you want your future to be boxed in by limitations? Our hearts have no bounds, other than what we force upon them with our minds, so open up! Feel your heart expand around you. Enjoy the journey, the ride, the current space you are in. It may come as no surprise that if you feel grateful, present and appreciative for where you are right now, you will continue to feel that way. Ride the wave, let it carry you to places you have not explored yet, feelings you have not truly felt and experiences that will fill you up.
You deserve so much more than what other people believe is good for you, or what other people have already accomplished. You deserve everything your soul came here to experience. Your mind means well but only your heart knows the way.
Enjoy your journey
